RT Utilisation

Radiotherapy is a cost effective system which needs a balance between operating staff and machines. There are shortages of properly trained staff and machines. Waiting times for treatment are sometimes too long, and radiotherapy is still unavailable in many countries.

According to various reports, more than half of the cancer patients should receive radiotherapy for cure or palliation at some stage of their disease. This proportion varies according to the type, site and stage of cancer, but the methodology to calculate the rate of utilisation of radiotherapy is the same.

Links to strategic plans developed by some countries using this methodological analysis are shown as good examples.
