The automatic sample changer
In this model of gamma counter, the racks of sample tubes to be counted are placed on the right hand side where they are carried towards the back of the instrument on a kind of conveyor belt consisting of two rubber “rails”.
The rack presently being counted has been moved to the left, behind the grey housing. The samples are being taken out of the rack one by one, counted and replaced. When the counted tube is replaced, the rack is moved on to the left so the sample changer can grasp the next tube in the rack. When all the samples in this rack are counted, it is moved completely to the left and away towards the front of the instrument. See schematic of sample changer.
